STAINLESS STEEL 301 TUBE WELDING:
must be annealed for maximum corrosion resistance
more difficult to work than other austenitic stainless steels, due to its high work hardening rate..
must be annealed for maximum corrosion resistance

Welding and post weld annealing will both remove high strength induced by prior cold rolling.
Spot welding is commonly used to assemble cold rolled 301 components..
material will lose temper in the heat affected weld zone.

WHAT IS TYPE 301 STAINLESS STEEL?
Type 301 is a chromium nickel austenitic stainless steel capable of attaining high strengths and ductility by cold working. It is not hardenable by heat treatment. Type 301 is non-magnetic in the annealed condition and becomes increasingly magnetic with cold working. This chromium nickel stainless steel alloy provides high strength and good ductility when cold worked.
